When Fr. Kolvenbach announced in January 2006 the convening of a General Congregation for January 2008, all major superiors whose term of office would expire within that time were frozen in office.  That amounted to more than 20 major superiors.  Now that a new Superior General has been elected, announcements are being made at GC 35 of the new major superiors.  The first appointments for Africa-Madagascar were announced on 26 February: Stephen G. Buckland (l) for the Zimbabwe Province and Eugene D. Goussikindey (r) for the West Africa Province.  Four more major superiors for Africa-Madagascar are still to be announced.
