Triduum

Triduum is a three-day retreat. The purpose of the Triduum at such an early stage of a novice's life in the novitiate is to introduce the man to the contemplative aspect of a Jesuit's life. One early Jesuit expert on the Constitutions of the Society, Jérome Nadal, called Jesuits "contemplatives in action," by which he meant that Jesuits are men who continually pray for the guidance of the Spirit while involved in activities such as teaching or even ordinary conversation, so that all may be for the "Greater Glory of God" (Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam-AMDG).
