Other Apostolates in Nigeria and Liberia

Fr. Steve Astill, S.J. runs the Catholic Chaplaincy at LUTH and the College of Medicine of the University of Fr. Steve Astill SJLagos (CMUL), both in Lagos , Nigeria. The Catholic Chaplaincy Centre of LUTH/CMUL is the oldest work in the Province. It was started by the late Fr. Joe Schuyler SJ, who was a Professor of Sociology, Chaplain at the University of Lagos, and then expanded his ministry to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos (CMUL). He was succeeded by Fr. Jack Ryan SJ and in 1994, Fr. Steve Astill SJ, of the Australian Province, was appointed as the Chaplain for the two institutions.

Both institutions are among the most prestigious in Nigeria. LUTH is under the Federal Ministry of Health while the College falls under the Federal Ministry of Education.
