The Jesuit Centre in Benin City does the ministry of the Spiritual Exercises. One of the riches in the heritage of Ignatian Spirituality is the experience of the personally directored 30-day retreat. This experience can be a helpful instrument for those preparing for final profession and for those who want to deepen their commitment to the Lord and who desires to put order into their lives and to come in to true spiritual freedom and openess to do God's will. Fr. Sam Okwuidegbe, S.J., the Director of the Centre is a trained counselor
with an invaluable experience in retreat direting.
Fr.. Robert E. Hamm, S.J. Before
coming to Nigeria in 1988, Fr. Hamm was the Director of the Jesuit Center for Spiritual Growth in Wernersville, PA. Between 1977 and 1984 he served as Rector of Loyola High School and as assistant Tertian Instructor of the Jesuits of the Maryland Province. He has given retreats and training programs in spiritual direction and apostolic spirituality in Kenya, Australia, Canada, and the United States.
Fr. Ehi Omoragbone, S.J., served as the Assistant Novice Director between 2002
and 2005. Before that had spent time training as a retreat director.
Soon to join the Centre staff is Br. Lawrence Makonora, S.J., from the Zimbabwe Province.
NOTE: Experienced associate directors - priests, sisters, brothers, and lay persons - are often invited to join the Centre's permanent staff for a limited period of time; and from time to time intern directors work with the staff and receive supervision.
