The Jesuit Centre in Benin City does the ministry of the Spiritual Exercises. Fr. Dominic Totaro, S.J., the Retreat Director, Fr. Bob Hamm, S.J., Fr. Thomas Oguagua, S.J., Chukwuma Mueme, S.J., and Mr. Anthony Chinedu Maurice, Assistant Retreat Directors with other retreat collaborators offer the full Exercises of St. Ignatius at least twice a year. They specialize in directed retreats of six to eight days, based on Ignatian discernment.
Rev. Dominic Totaro, S.J. Prior to joining the staff of the Jesuit Team in 1994, Fr. Totaro was a secondary school teacher, primarily of religious education. He also worked with Christian Life Communities, directed the Spiritual Exercises in Daily Life, and gave programs in spirituality and leadership.
Rev. Robert E. Hamm, S.J. Before
coming to Nigeria in 1988, Fr. Hamm was the Director of the Jesuit Center for Spiritual Growth in Wernersville, PA. Between 1977 and 1984 he served as Rector of Loyola High School and as assistant Tertian Instructor of the Jesuits of the Maryland Province. He has given retreats and training programs in spiritual direction and apostolic spirituality in Kenya, Australia, Canada, and the United States.
Rev. Thomas Oguagua, S.J. A newly-ordained priest, Fr. Thomas brings a lively interest in the dynamics of the Ignatian Exercises.
Mr. Anthony Chinedu Maurice is the past president of CLC-NIGERIA. He had assisted the Centre on several
programs and as a guest director of retreats before being invited to join the staff.
NOTE: Experienced associate directors - priests, sisters, brothers, and lay persons - are often invited to join the Centre's permanent staff for a limited period of time; and from time to time intern directors work with the staff and receive supervision.
