Support the Jesuits of North-West Africa
The mission of the Jesuit Development Office is to raise awareness of and support for the different needs of the North-West Africa Province. The office’s immediate mandate is to raise funds for the formation (education and training) of Jesuits.
According to the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI:
“Our latest demographic study shows three quarters of the world’s Catholics now live in Africa, Asia, and South America; half are in Africa and Asia; the Church grows more rapidly in Africa than in any other continent. Yet there are not enough priests, religious, and lay ministers in these continents. God is blessing us with many vocations to ministry; but there are not enough priests, religious, and qualified lay persons to form them well for ministry appropriate to the various cultures. You must continue the good work in your Jesuit houses of study and in other seminaries or institutes for formation of priests and other religious ministers.”
Indeed, our province is immensely blessed with booming vocations. More than 80 percent of the men in our province are in various stages of the Jesuit formation process. Jesuit formation lasts more than 12 years and continues even after priestly ordination. It alternates between periods of academic study and hands-on ministerial and teaching experience.
This extensive education and training is also expensive. To address this priority, the ANW Jesuit Development Office has a mandate to raise the needed money for formation of Jesuits. The average annual cost per Jesuit is US$25, 000. We kindly seek your prayers and financial support to train the next generation of Jesuit pastors, teachers, researchers, writers, preachers, counselors, chaplains, social workers, and retreat directors. In collaboration with our lay companions, these men will evangelize the world and further God’s kingdom of justice and peace on earth.
